Get your swimming pool ready for summer

Summer time is coming. Don’t be the guy or gal with a dirty pool in your back yard when the sun is shining and your friends are ready to swim. Here are some tips to make sure your pool is ready for the fun of the summer heat.

Hows your water? What does it look like? Start off by checking the PH. A perfect swimming pool should be between 7.2 and 7.8. Most professional pool industry people will tell you 7.6 is just right. If your PH is below 7.2 you will need to add Soda Ash. If it is high then you will need to add Muriatic Acid to lower it to the correct level.

Once your water chemistry is correct it is time to check the pressure on your filter. Every filter is a little different luckily there is a gauge that tells you the pressure and the pressure it is ran at efficiently. If your pressure is running high above the “clean” mark then it is time to do a filter clean. Most filters can be cleaned by taking off the lid and removing the grids or cartridge. Simply hose these off ridding the filter of all the dirt and grime that has built up over the winter. If you have a DE filter you will need to add the correct amount of DE powder back into the filter by putting it into the skimmer box while the pump is running. Just make sure to take out the leaf basket before doing so.

Next lets vacuum the pool. Many pools have automatic vacuums that will do this for you. If you do not then you will just hook up a vacuum attachment to your pool pole and attach the hose into your skimmer box. Best to go slow and take your time so the vacuum head can get all the debris.

Now it is time to brush those walls. Grab your pole and attach the brush. Start at the top of the wall and brush down all along the walls of the swimming pool. Then sit back and let the filter run its course to clean the water.
